Ever had purple gin before? I discovered Empress 1908 Gin last year and it’s the prettiest, purple-est gin you’ll ever lay your eyes on. C’mon, that bottle is basically begging to be photographed!

Empress 1908 gets its colour from Butterfly Pea Blossoms. Layer an ounce or two of this stuff into your favourite cocktail and watch the purple hue take over - it’s definitely a conversation starter!

The Leuty Lifeguard Station is set to turn 101 yea

The Leuty Lifeguard Station is set to turn 101 years old this summer. It currently sits perched on Lake Ontario giving lifeguards a home base while they’re patrolling the beach and saving lives during swimming season. In its 100+ years, this building has seen over 6,000 lives saved. It’s a prominent fixture in the community and represents a tiny, yet important part of Toronto’s rich history.

Back in the 1990s, this charming little structure fell into disrepair and was headed for demolition. The local community gathered together, fundraised, and ultimately saved the station from a less-than-ideal ending.

Today seemed like the right day to share these photos. I specifically went to this spot on this gloomy day because I wasn’t feeling my best and I wanted to capture that. The past year has presented all of us with so many challenges and some of those challenges are hard to understand - especially when it comes to mental health.

I’ve personally had many ups and downs this past year. Some days are easy-breezy but others feel like a challenge I’m not ready to take on. Some days I’m my energetic self, but others I find myself retreating to my inner introvert. There is no rhyme or reason to any of it - it simply is what it is. And I’ve come to learn that that’s okay.

If you experience similar struggles, know that you’re not alone. You are valuable - and if you need to talk, I’m here.

If you suspect that someone you know is going through a difficult time, my advice to you is to be patient and understanding. You might reach out to a friend but get no response for days on end - it can be frustrating. Trust me, I know.

It doesn’t matter if it’s your parent, best friend or distant relative - you never know how the message you sent will find someone, especially when we’re all apart. Sometimes space, time, and love from afar is all somebody needs to get through a tough day. Telling someone they’ve “ghosted” you or pressuring someone for a faster response can do more harm than good.

Much like the Leuty Lifeguard Station, all of us are important to our communities - even if it feels like we aren’t. All it takes is a little love and unity to lift someone up.

Getting outside can be a challenge these days (at least for me), but sometimes a kick in the butt from a friend is all you need. Caught up with @fordshirriff recently snapped a few portraits. His thoughts on the future are pretty inspiring, couldn’t have said it better myself:

“2020 wasn't supposed to be like that. Losing friends and family members, losing our livelihoods and even our relationships. Fighting every day for just the slightest bit of hope but waking up furious at the world, handcuffed to the helpless feeling that this is our new reality.

But 2021 is a new year. It's a new world. It's also a new us. Times are still dark but seasons change, and just like everything before it, this too will pass. We're built tougher than this moment in time. Let's lean on those we trust and love.

Let's remind ourselves that we can dominate what we can control. Let's put our head down, turn the volume UP and believe.

Ironically presented to you in the morning, welcome to #NeonAtNight: a five-part photo series I’ll be sharing with you over the next few weeks.

Part I: CHUM

CHUM FM has been Toronto’s cornerstone radio station since the 1960’s. Originally headquartered on Yonge St., CHUM currently watches over the corner of Richmond St. W and Duncan St. in downtown Toronto.

Aside from being a complete stunner, this neon sign has a lot of sentiment behind it for me. I’ve listened to this station for as long as I can remember - playing along with “Beat the Bank” in the car as a kid and being woken up by “Roger, Rick and Marilyn” throughout my high school years are memories I’ll never forget.

I was also lucky enough to start my career in television working with one of CHUM’s most legendary anchors, @MarilynDenis, on The Marilyn Denis Show where I got to meet incredible people, share incredible stories, and see more of Canada than I ever thought I would.
