What is GPSR?
GPSR is a new regulation established by the European Commission that will serve as the fundamental legal framework for ensuring product safety in the European Union market.
It will replace the current General Product Safety Directive
and the Food Imitating Product Directive, taking effect from December 13, 2024.
It is officially known as Regulation (EU) 2023/988 and it is applicable all non-food products sold offline and online.
Non-compliance with the GPSR can lead to consequences for exporters, including fines, product bans, and reputational damage.
EU Responsible Person Requirement
Sellers must designate a “responsible person” within the EU who will act as the point of contact for product compliance and safety issues, ensuring that products sold in the market meet all applicable safety standards.
This responsible person must have access to the technical documentation and, in some cases, will need to collaborate with local authorities in case of product recalls or safety concerns.
